Moon Loft & Hollow started with humble beginnings. Initially beginning Avian education with exotic species like parrots, my mission has always been educating the public about their care in captivity, life cycles, roles within their ecosystems and challenges they face in both captive & wild settings. A few short years after launching educational program I opened my own sanctuary on our 20 acres of land and have been providing stability to birds in need ever since.
After 11 years of working with exotic species, I began my falconry journey in my early 30’s. I also began a partnership with the BayCity DNR office to pick up injured or sick raptors and rush them to federally licensed raptor rehabs that provide life saving medical treatments in hopes of reintroducing individuals back into the wild.
Falconry is legal in every state except Hawaii, it is also state a federally regulated with many legal requirements to obtain your permits. This includes passing your Falconers exam, DNR inspections, securing a sponsorship with a licensed falconer for 24 months, among other tasks.
In the process I adopted a young Eurasian Eagle Owl I named “Kira”. He has worked with the public since he was an 3 week old owlet as an ambassador for Owl education and other birds of prey.
My mission with Kira and future Raptors that join the sanctuary is to inspire compassion and understanding in those that meet them.
We provide a unique, safe and fun up close experience with our raptors to educate the importance of these animals within their environment. How we can reduce unnecessary risk to Raptors with simple changes on pest control, hunting ammunition & preserving forested areas.
