Kira is a male Eurasian Eagle Owl. At this current moment in time, he is the only raptor in our Sanctuary.

This species of owl is closely related to the Great Horned Owl but the Eurasian outmatches the Great Horned in weight, height & width of wingspan. Eurasian Eagle Owls are considered by many as the 2nd largest owl in the world and occupy Central Europe, Northern Africa, Saudi Arabia, continuing East into the Himalayas. These large owls are Apex Predators in their ecosystems and have been documented to hunt fawn deer, foxes, other owls, medium to small mammals and even fish!

They can endure a broad range of temperatures and climates which makes them extremely hardy and adaptable in nature.

In captivity EEO’s have been known to live up to 60yrs.

Kira is closely approaching his 2nd “Hatch Day” and currently weighs 6lbs and has a 5.5ft wingspan! He is considered to be full grown and should remain this size for the remainder of his lifetime
